Please help us grow our database by including projects that work with material related to the U.S.-Mexico borderlands from pre-colonial times to the present.

Our consideration of projects relies on our Vision, which encompasses projects that focus on the designated time periods, from pre-colonial times to the present. The formats in consideration are: digital documentation, activism, mapping, blogs, podcast/video channel, etc.

Projects need to have a digital component, either presently active or inactive.

  • Active Projects: include the title and a link to the project.
  • Inactive: include the title and any information that can help us trace the project.

Definition of the U.S.-Mexico Borderlands

Pre-colonial Times Native lands from the following states:

  • Mexico: Baja California, Sonora, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León and Tamaulipas
  • United States: California, Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana and Florida

Nineteenth Century (1800-1899):

During the nineteenth century, Spain acquired various territories that were part of the Spanish borderland. Refer to the states above.

Twentieth and twenty-first centuries (1900-Present):

Includes projects from the cities and counties located along the current division line established in 1848.

  • Mexico: Baja California, Sonora, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León and Tamaulipas
  • United States: California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas

Indigenous work can range from pre-colonial times to the present



Phase Two

Please let us know of people interested in working on Phase 2, the Central America (Southern Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, El Salvador) borderlands region, and would like to engage with the project in the near future.
